May Day Basket

April 26, 2016 Marisa Macy
Happy May Day

Happy May Day

Like the swallows in Leo Politi’s 1948 classic, I find myself experiencing spring migration. My journey is different from the birds who return to San Juan Capistrano every spring. I feel drawn to Florida to attend Disney’s Flower and Garden Festival at Epcot. This event brings visitors from around the world to take in the gardening and floral extravaganza from the beginning of March to the end of May.

On my recent trip to the festival, I dreamed of ways I could bring the beauty and appreciation of Mother Nature home with me. One idea I had was to start a new tradition in my family of making May Day baskets.

When you were a kid did you ever… make a basket on May 1st, put it on a neighbor's door, and then leave?

Look out neighbors! Don’t be surprised if you find a basket of flowers on your front door on May 1st. Happy May Day!
